Criminal Justice Innovation Competitions

JusticeMakers hosts competitions that seek out and fund grassroots initiatives to promote criminal justice and rule of law. The deadline for applications to the current Asia JusticeMakers competition was March 24, 2010.  The class of 2010 Fellows were named in May.  

JusticeMakers also has a rolling application process for innovators whose proposals fall outside the timeframe or geographic focus of competitions. 2010 Asia JusticeMakers Competition

IBJ, in tandem with the Lien Center for Social Innovation, is proud to present the 2010 Asia JusticeMakers Competition. This event awarded $5,000 in seed funding to eleven applicants whose projects displayed the most innovation, efficacy and sustainability. The 2010 JusticeMakers Fellows will also receive additional training at the Singapore Criminal Justice Training Center from August 11-16, 2010, as well as being paired with documentary photojournalists to record their efforts. The deadline for the Preliminary Application was March 24th, 2010.

2008 Competition Archive

Our inaugural competition saw defenders, human rights officers, and public officials from 30 countries propose innovations seeking to curb torture and legal abuse. Project ideas tackled a range of existing problems in one’s legal system by seeking to alleviate these issues through a variety of innovative ideas – including a grassroots monitoring system of police abuse, seeking reparations for victims of abuse in detention centers and holding workshops to raise public awareness of individual rights.
